Volentia Translation began with a simple idea: that better communication can bring people together.

Volentia was founded by Lynda Li and Riya Virdi, who met in a UBC undergraduate statistics course and became close friends. As children of immigrants, they shared a keen motivation to improve healthcare access among minority, marginalized, and underserved communities. Initially focused on providing healthcare translation, the demand for Volentia's language services quickly expanded in its scope and geographical coverage. This growth paved the way for our expansion into research language services, as well as our establishment of Volentia branches across Canada.

What is the meaning behind our name?

Our name, Volentia, is derived from the Latin word “benevolentia”, meaning good will. At Volentia Translation, we believe that good will is about how we treat other people. Kindness towards others begins with empathy, which is the ability to understand and share the feelings of another person. By fostering greater understanding, we can begin to empower the voices of underrepresented communities.
